
The Georgia State Patrol has released the following information regarding the fatal car accident in Lyerly on Sunday, May 4.
The preliminary details of the investigation are as follows:
On May 4, 2025, at 5:00 pm, a Trooper was dispatched to a one-vehicle crash on GA 114 near Dovers Cut Road in Chattooga County. Upon arriving on the scene, it was determined that a male passenger in the vehicle had been ejected and was pronounced deceased by the Chattooga County Coroner. The driver involved is suspected of driving under the influence and was placed under arrest on the scene. The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (Troop A) responded to assist with the investigation.

On May 4, 2025 the Chattooga County Coroner’s office was dispatched by Chattooga County 911 to the 5500 block of Highway 114 in Lyerly for a single vehicle motor vehicle accident.
Upon arrival a subject was pronounced deceased on the scene by Chattooga County Coroner Jeremy McElhaney. 1 other subject had what is believed to be moderate injuries and was transported by Atrium-Floyd EMS for treatment. Two subjects had minor injuries and were treated by EMS on the scene but refused transport to a medical facility.
The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending family notification. The Chattooga County Coroner’s office, Georgia State Patrol, and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
